Scotland’s Diverse Property Market – from Croft to Castle

From the bustling city of Edinburgh to the remote highlands and coastal resorts, Scotland is an incredibly beautiful country with a great diversity of property options. The diversity of its landscape is paralleled by its equally varied property market. There’s probably something for everyone here.

Scotland’s property market covers everything from stately castles, to their conversions to modern studios.

If you’re looking at more populated areas, such as Edinburgh, Glasgow or Fife, you can choose from any number of new build flats, semi-detached and detached properties. However, you can also pick from a variety of more eclectic and historic buildings.

Just outside of Glasgow, for example, you can buy an ‘eight bedroom detached property’, with the postal address ‘Bardowie Castle’. Modestly described, this is in fact a literal castle and is actually Scotland’s oldest stone keep. It contains a loch, tennis court and ten acres of land and will cost you close to £3 million – to live like royalty, you have to pay the price!

If you’re looking for a slice of history without the ‘grade A’ price tag, Scotland is a great place to look. Crofts (small dwellings situated on farmland) are something of the past, but they can still be found in Scotland at bargain prices. Glasgow and East Kilbride have studios and one bedroom flats for sale for less than £50,000, some of which in iconic grade II listed buildings. For example, a one bedroom flat in the famous St Andrew’s Court in Glasgow, formerly a Sheriff’s Courthouse, complete with newly refurbished rooms but maintaining its period features, will set you back a measly £48,000. That’s very little money for a lot of history!

So whether you’re looking for a castle or a croft, Scotland can deliver with its huge range of properties for sale.
